Nova Sonata
NOVA SONATA is an on-rails shooter where every action creates the soundtrack. The world is your instrument: every vine you hit, every meteor you destroy becomes another layer in the song.
This isn't meant to be a rhythm game. There's no pressure to stay on beat, no wrong notes. Play how you want and the music will follow.
Best with headphones if you've got 'em. If not, play it loud, preferably in a very public place. See "options" in the pause menu for controls.
This demo tape is a short, proof-of-concept sandbox meant to explore a core idea that I've been dreaming of for years. So many music games are solely about timing and precision, which to me as a hobbyist musician (read: sloppy), misses so much of the joy of playing an instrument. My goal is to make a game more about the fun of creating and manipulating music, not just syncing to it. In addition to being about blasting aliens to space hell of course.
This is a true solo endeavor, all the stuff you see and hear was lovingly massaged into existence by me. No AI music, art, or assets.

Already played? Join the band, get involved! I've set up a quick feedback form and your participation genuinely will help me shape the future of the game. This is all just a glimpse of what I'm hoping to shape into a full-length experience.

This is a nice idea, but without there being a goal, how would you advance forward to new levels?
Thanks for playing! Great question. The goal for this demo was to create a kind of proof-of-concept sandbox to explore musical ideas and refine the gameplay. Currently taking lessons learned and building out more linear levels with goals, failstates, branching paths, all that good stuff.
It will be interesting to see how you implement that without failing the players when they fall short of their objectives.
I also make games, and it's a real challenge to make both educational and fun games at the same time.
Great vibes, keep up the good work!
That's a great demo! I am looking forward to a full release!
